Last week Golden Square welcomed local makeup artist, Jen Hunter, to its Thursday Evening Exclusive, where she gave demos with Kiko Milano and even gave lucky shoppers a mini makeover.
Jen was so great at the exclusive evening that we decided to create an Oh My Gosh first – a blogger Q&A.
Check out what Jen Hunter is up to in the beauty world and what her plans are for next season’s trends
When did you start blogging, and what’s your favourite part?
I started blogging when I entered the makeup industry. I started to compile reviews, product testing and behind the scenes content and the blog came naturally from there. As I’ve got busier running my own studio and travelling with my work, my blogging has moved to Instagram which I have found a more instant way of interacting with people. I love to interact and network with other artists and keep inspired.
Can you talk us through what’s in your makeup bag?
The contents of my makeup bag can change with the season, but I always make sure my skincare is in there. A SPF is so important underneath foundation, as well as my moisturiser (SPF – Glossier, Moisturiser Embroylisse). A few more favourites are My Kit Co brushes, The Ordinary foundation, KIKO bronzers and blushers, NARS Matte Concealer and an eyeshadow palette, at the moment I’m loving the Urban Decay Heat palette and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glow palette.
What beauty item can’t you leave home without?
Lip balm! My kit staple is either Carmex or Dr Lipp.
Talk us through your go-to stores/brands when it comes to shopping for beauty products?
When I’m working in the USA it’s always Sephora, when I’m back home then I do a lot of my shopping online or in Debenhams beauty hall. When I have the time I always try to pop into freestanding stores such as KIKO or MAC to check out the latest products and launches.
Do you have any beauty predictions for AW18?
We’re going to see a lot of changes towards the end of the year, and they’ll be a lot of fun to play around with. We’re expecting new season collections to have burgundy, maroon and purple tones for both eyes and lips, keeping inspired by the Pantone colour of the year (Ultra Violet). Recent fashion week have played with texture too, so swap the matte palettes out for metallic and shimmers. Pair these with toned down skin, feathery brows and you’re on trend for this winter.
What are you looking to add to your makeup bag this season?
Lots more cream shadows and liners. I’m using more coloured liners at the moment.
Do you have any plans for the upcoming fashion weeks?
New York and London shows are just around the corner, so I’ll be rethinking my kit for this season, interpreting moodboards and looking forward to another few weeks of travelling!
What brands are you most excited to work on this fashion week?
I’m so honoured to be able to work with a range of brands, from those just starting out to the established brands who run each season. I get really excited for the John Paul Ataker show as his designs are just so beautiful, and also the showcases that launch the new brands. There’s always so much excitement backstage and I love the buzz in the air!
